Texas A&M sophomore guard ruben Dominguez intends to enter the transfer portal, multiple reports indicated Tuesday.
AggieHuddle.com has learned that Dominguez had not entered the portal as of 1 p.m., but is expected to at some point today.
The Spanish import averaged 10.2 points per game for the Aggies this season and set a program record for 3-point baskets in a game with 10 against Manhattan. He also hit the third-most 3’s in a season in program history, but slumped mightily once conference play began.
For the season, Dominguez made 40.7% of his shots and exactly 40% of his 3-pointers. Once SEC play began, those numbers both dropped to 35%. After averaging 13.7 PPG in non-conference play, his scoring output fell to 8.2 PPG. That slump temporarily cost him his starting job, but he came off the bench against Kentucky to have his best game of the SEC slate, scoring 17 points on 5 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc.
After starting SEC play making 12 of his first 25 3-point attempts, Dominguez went into a horrific slump, making 18 of 66 (27%) over the next 13 games. After the outburst against Kentucky, he made 7 of his remaining 23 attempts (30%), which increased A&M’s desire to find more consistent outside shooting.
Point guard Josh Holloway is the only Aggie currently actually in the transfer portal.
