Former Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery has been called up to the major leagues by the Chicago White Sox.
Montgomery’s ascent has been rapid, as he was the 12th pick overall by the Boston Red Sox just two years ago. After being traded to the White Sox as a key piece of a trade for All-Star pitcher Garrett Crochet, Montgomery’s rise picked up speed.
Montgomery started the season at Double-A Birmingham, then jumped to Triple-A Charlotte. In just 56 games between the two, Montgomery has hit .314 with 13 doubles, 3 triples, 10 home runs and an OPS of .970.
Montgomery was only in Aggieland for a single season, but it was a memorable one. He was a consensus All-American in 2024, hitting .322 with 27 home runs and 85 RBI and OPS of 1.185. His season ended in the College Station Regional when he suffered a broken ankle while sliding into home plate. That injury may well have cost the Aggies a national championship that season.
Montgomery will be, appropriately, the 12th Aggie to appear in a Major League game this season, joining Brandyn Garcia (Arizona Diamondbacks), Michael Helman (Texas Rangers), Nolan Hoffman (Philadelphia Phillies), Stephen Kolek (Kansas City Royals), Corbin Martin (Chicago Cubs), Bryce Miller (Seattle Mariners), A.J. Minter (New York Mets), Brooks Raley (New York Mets), Christian Roa (Houston Astros), Braden Shewmake (Houston Astros) and Michael Wacha (Kansas City Royals).
