Hoops adds second portal commit

Texas A&m’s newest addition through the transfer portal won’t need to figure out how to play bucky Ball.

Radford guard Lukas Walls, who spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Samford with Texas A&M Coach Bucky McMillan, committed to the Aggies Wednesday evening. He is the second player to commit to A&M out of the portal, joining honorable mention All-American PJ Haggerty.

The Aggies have been looking for a consistent outside shooting threat, and Walls would appear to be that. During his three years of college basketball, Walls has never shot worse than 38.5% from 3-point range.

Radford gave Walls an opportunity to start, and he averaged 7.9 points per game while averaging 24 minutes played. He shot 52% from the field and was deadly beyond the arc, making 45.5% of his attempts — and he averaged more than three attempts per game.

That type of shooting made him an appealing target for his old coach, who could use the 6-foot-5, 203-pound guard on the perimeter as the Aggies look to replace Rylan Givens and Ruben Dominguez. He likely projects as a shooter off the bench, but he brings the advantage of knowing how the A&M offense operates.
