Texas A&M held its spring game today, and while it’s important not to overreact to anything in April, there were still some clear impressions across the roster.
At quarterback, Marcel Reed looked much more comfortable and in control. He went through his reads well, stayed composed under pressure, and didn’t panic when forced out of the pocket. It was a noticeably more polished performance. Brady Hart also lived up to what’s been said about him throughout spring camp—he played with confidence and didn’t look like a player who should still be in high school. The moment didn’t look too big for him at all.
Running back was a bit tougher to evaluate with the constant rotation along the offensive line, but both Morrow and Rueben Owens had their moments. Morrow, especially, stood out with how smooth and natural he looked as a runner. There’s a lot to like there.
The wide receiver group might be the deepest on the team. There’s real playmaking ability not just at the top, but throughout the rotation. Isaiah Horton showed why there’s been so much hype around him, making multiple contested catches. Aaron Gregory and Jayden Warren both flashed as well and look like guys who will push to get on the field early.
Up front, the offensive line was solid overall. Run blocking wasn’t perfect, but that’s expected with different units rotating in and out. Lamont Rogers was one of the more noticeable players and looks like a strong option at left tackle moving forward.
Defensively, Marco Jones and Anto Saka both had strong days and were active up front. The defensive tackle group still looks like a work in progress, which makes sense given the new pieces there.
At linebacker, thoughts are with Daymion Sanford, who’s a leader for that group. Noah Mikhali, on the other hand, continues to stand out. He plays with confidence and physicality and looks like someone who’s been in the program for years already.
In the secondary, Brandon Arrington was the most impressive defensive back on the field. He showed exactly why he’s so highly regarded and looks capable of contributing early. The Colorado transfer, Byard, also had a strong showing—physical, instinctive, and consistently around the ball.
Overall, it’s a spring game. It’s meant for evaluation and for players to get reps in front of fans. But there’s definitely plenty to build on coming out of today.
