1. If 5-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews commits to Texas A&M on Friday, he will be the highest-ranked offensive lineman to ever commit to the Aggies. Matthews is currently ranked sixth in the Rivals 300. Kenyon Green was ranked 11th. The two best linemen of the 21st century, Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews, were ranked 36th and 37th, respectively. Current commit Kennedy Brown is ranked 15th, which is currently the second-highest ranking for an Aggie offensive line commit.
2. Texas A&M’s advantage with 5-star cornerback John Meredith, the top corner in the nation and the number two player overall, appears to have vanished and Texas has taken the lead. The Aggies are still after him and are hoping to stem the tide against them, but they’ve had an outstanding backup plan in Josh Dobson, the second-highest rated corner. Losing out on the nation’s top corner would be a bummer, but getting number two and number five (Rylaun Henry) would be a phenomenal consolation prize. If they can somehow pry Meredith away from Texas and get Dobson — that’s the greatest cornerback class in history.
3. Someone asked whether or not the Aggies are going to try to increase their efforts with Gilmer OL Ismael Camara as a few other targets go off the board, and my speculative answer is this: if they see him as a guard, yes. If Matthews commits to A&M, they have four potential tackles committed. They don’t have any guards at this point. Camara would fit nicely if he’s considered an interior lineman.

4. As I was writing this, word came out of Miami that running back Le’Veon Moss had retired. I’m sorry to hear that for multiple reasons. First, he’s got two kids, and an NFL career would have potentially set them up well. Second, he deserved better after dealing with so many injuries. I hope he finds a good career and shoots up the depth chart as quickly as he did at A&M.
5. A&M announced today that they are dropping the 2027 game against New Mexico. They have 11 games still set, but it’ll be interesting to see who replaces the Lobos on the schedule. I don’t mind the change. I’ve seen enough of New Mexico teams.

6. Right now, A&M does not have an FCS team on its 2027 schedule. The two set out of conference games are Texas State and Arizona State. The conference schedule includes road games at Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State (ugh) and Texas, while the home slate consists of Georgia (FINALLY!), LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. That’s a pretty challenging slate.
7. The Aggie basketball team will play in the Battle 4 Atlantis at Thanksgiving. They didn’t get an invite to the Player’s Era Tournament in Las Vegas, which expanded to 24 teams this year. But you know who did? Maryland. I guess that everyone needs a pushover.
8. The Aggie baseball team currently has an RPI of 10 and is currently tied for second place in the SEC (with Texas, so A&M has the tiebreaker). That makes the final series against No. 13 Mississippi State all the more important. If the Aggies win the series, then they likely clinch a national seed and a single digit seed at that. Texas plays Missouri this weekend, and Mizzou is in last place in the conference at 6-21, so the Aggies need Missouri to do them a solid and repeat what they did at Olsen last season. If A&M loses the series, they could fall to as low as fifth in the conference standings.
9. Ole Miss has taken some pretty serious slings and arrows this week, starting with Lane Kiffin insinuating that the university’s history with racism made it tougher to recruit, then Steve Sarkisian saying Ole Miss’ academic standards are subpar. Ole Miss plays both teams this fall with Kiffin and LSU coming to Oxford Sept. 19.
10. It’s amazing how intelligent a football mind Kiffin has and how little common sense he has. Lobbing nukes at another former employer doesn’t change anything, but makes him look petty — shocker — and pisses off another in-conference opponent. So now Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama and A&M all want to bury him. He may be enjoying the attention and the outrage, but giving an SEC opponent more firepower to beat you is ill-advised.
