Five-Star OT Mark Matthews Commits to Texas A&M

Texas A&M landed one of the biggest commitments in the entire 2027 recruiting class as five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews announced his commitment to the Aggies over Miami and several national powers. The elite lineman, ranked as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country, gives Texas A&M another massive recruiting win and continues the momentum building in College Station under Mike Elko.

Matthews has quickly become one of the most dominant prospects in America thanks to his rare mix of size, athleticism, and power in the trenches. At 6-foot-6 and over 300 pounds, he has the physical tools college coaches dream about at the tackle position. Whether it’s protecting the quarterback or opening running lanes, Matthews has shown the ability to completely take over games against top competition.

One of the biggest reasons Texas A&M won this recruitment was offensive line coach Adam Cushing. Multiple sources around the recruitment pointed to the relationship between Matthews and Cushing as a major factor in the Aggies pulling ahead of Miami down the stretch. Cushing made Matthews a top priority early in the process and sold him on the development plan, SEC competition, and the future of Texas A&M football.

Miami made a serious push throughout the recruitment and remained heavily involved until the end, but the Aggies ultimately secured the commitment from the nation’s top offensive tackle. For Texas A&M, adding a cornerstone player like Matthews to the 2027 class is the type of commitment that can shape an entire recruiting cycle.

Matthews now becomes one of the headliners of Texas A&M’s future class and another major piece for the Aggies as they continue building toward competing at the top of the SEC.
