Aggies Land Fast-Climbing Defensive Back

Errol Kerns flipped his commitment from Miami (Ohio) to Texas A&M Friday.

Earlier this week, Texas A&M landed the commitment of rapidly-rising defensive back of Loia Valade. Errol Kerns’ rise has been so fast it puts Valade’s to shame.

Kerns, a 3-star recruit from Indianapolis Lawrence Central HIgh School, committed to Miami (Ohio) on April 24. It turned out to be a little premature, because he was hit with a flood of Power 4 offers two weeks later.

On May 9, Michigan offered. Two days later, Kentucky and Northwestern offered. Purdue and Illinois were in two days after that, followed by national champion Indiana and the Aggies a day after that. Wisconsin and Ohio State offered by the end of the following week.

The Aggies were able to get Kerns to visit during their first major official visit weekend — last weekend — and the visit apparently blew him away. Even though he had an official visit to Indiana scheduled in two weeks, he decided to make a switch Friday, de-committing from Miami and committing to the Aggies.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound defensive back has played safety in high school, and racked up huge numbers during the 2025 season. He posted a total of 90 tackles (52 solo), 5 passes broken up and 3 interceptions. He also tallied 3 forced fumbles and 4 tackles for loss. As a returner, he had combined 773 return yards between kickoffs and punts.
