A&M Goes Pro For New Pitching Coach

Texas A&M is hiring Athletics pitching coordinator and director of pitching Barry Enright as its new pitching coach, sources confirmed to AggieHuddle.com Thursday morning.

Enright, 40, has major league pitching experience and spent two years (2024-25) as the Angels’ pitching coach under Ron Washington. When the Angels hired Kurt Suzuki as their new manager and dismissed Washington’s old staff, he was quickly snapped up by their AL West rival.

While the results in Anaheim were not overly impressive (28th overall in ERA both seasons, dropping from 4.97 to 4.89) due to a lack of pitching talent, Enright did help lefthander Tyler Anderson make his second All-Star team in 2024. But what likely made Enright appealing is what he did before and after his stint with the Angels.

In November 2021, Enright was hired as the assistant major league pitching coach and minor league pitching coordinator for the Arizona Diamondbacks after just two seasons (there was no minor league baseball played in 2020) of coaching in the minors. He helped guide a pitching staff, led by All-Star Zac Gallen, to the World Series in 2023.

Enright’s reputation in professional circles is that he’s a good developer of young pitching, especially in the minor league ranks. His work in the Diamondbacks system, specifically, caught the attention of other organizations. He places a premium on building pitching programs, analyzing mechanics, creating development plans for each pitcher and using analytics as part of that process.

Development was sorely lacking with the Aggie pitching staff under Jason Kelly, which saw most pitchers regress while only starter Aiden Sims and closer Clayton Freshcorn were the only two regulars who had anything remotely close to a good seaosn in 2026. Coach Michael Earley is likely hoping Enright’s experience with professional pitchers and his hands-on approach will change things significantly in 2027.
