Camp Storylines
Can Owens carry the load? He became the lead back after Le’Veon Moss went down in the Florida game and ripped off some big runs and big games — but also struggled against better competition. He also had trouble staying upright after first contact. He’s now a big guy at 215 pounds and should be able to run through people if he’s back to full health.
Who’s the backup? Right now, it seems like it’s a race between Morrow and Edwards. Edwards arrived with plenty of fanfare and looked really good at times this spring, but the problem was keeping him on the field. Morrow, on the other hand, played like he didn’t want to lose his spot on the depth chart, running with more power than he showed in his freshman season. Both will probably end up getting carries, but who takes the second spot in the two deep remains in doubt.
Do they have a short yardage back? Last year, it was clearly Moss before he was injured. But, by season’s end, EJ Smith had taken over in that role. They have several players with the size to fill the role, but somebody needs to assert themselves.
