Camp Storylines
Who will start next to DJ Hicks? The clear answer at this point appears to be CJ Mims. The Aggies have a T.J. (Searcy), two DJs and a CJ on their line, but in this case we’re just interested in CJ. He bulked up after spring ball and is now up to 312 pounds while Hicks is at 293, so it looks like he’ll fill the role of the bigger interior lineman like Albert Regis did the past couple of years.
Who will be the primary backups? A&M went looking for players with some real experience at the Power 4 level and added Angelo McCullom and Brandon Davis-Swain from Illinois and Colorado, respectively. It seems like they’re going to be the second wave of defensive tackles, possibly with little falloff.
How deep is this group? Pretty darned, it appears. Landon Rink proved he could handle the SEC as a true freshman and DJ Sanders had an impressive spring, so they may play as well. It wasn’t all that long ago that the Aggies only had a three-tackle rotation they could rely on (you can argue that was the case last year), but now they could go six deep — or more.
Projected two-deep
DT: Hicks
Davis-Swain
DT: Mims
McCullom
