Hampton (Ga.) High School 5-star safety Kamarui Dorsey is living up to his billing in the early stages of his senior season.

In just four games, Dorsey has tallied 34 tackles, five interceptions and an interception returned for a touchdown. On offense, he’s caught 18 passes for 240 yards and a score while adding two more on the ground.

The Hudl highlights of his first three games of the 2026 season are extremely impressive. First, he’s already big for a safety at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds. He’s bigger than Ed Reed and comparable to Jamal Adams. That’s a physical presence in the defensive backfield.

His coverage skills are elite for a safety. In fact, Hampton uses him as a corner at times and leaves him on an island. But he’s at his best scanning the entire field. His anticipation is off the charts, as he reads the quarterback’s eyes and pounces. The first highlight of his film is a great example. He’s playing centerfield and sees the receiver start to cross in front of him. Dorsey recognizes what’s happening, covers the ground to reach the receiver and jumps the route before returning it for a touchdown.

In his third highlight, he recognizes the opposing team’s formation, alters the coverage and comes up to the line of scrimmage to take the slot receiver. Since he already knows what route the slot is going to run, he trails just slightly to get the quarterback to make the (ill-advised) throw. As soon as the ball’s in the air, he’s positioned between the receiver and the ball for another pick.

Dorsey will stick a receiver or back, too. There are several instances where he reacts like he’s shot out of a cannon, comes downhill and puts a shot on the guy with the ball. As I already mentioned, he covers a remarkable amount of ground in a few strides. He’s clearly fast, but how quickly he goes from zero to full speed is eye-opening.

Size? Check. Explosiveness? Check. Anticipation? Check. Coverage ability? Check. Tackling? Check. Size? Check. Dorsey covers just about anything you could want in safety.

If he is able to figure out the defense during the spring and summer, it seems like a very good bet that Dorsey will be out on the field for the 2027 season opener. With Marcus Ratcliffe and Dalton Brooks gone after this year, Tawfiq Byard looks like he’d be the guy who would step in as a starter at one of the safety spots. The other could be completely up for grabs and I wouldn’t count out Dorsey or fellow 2027 safety JayQuan Snell — coincidentally, the number one and number two safeties in the nation according to Rivals — being out there as a starter. A grouping of Dorsey, Snell, Chance Collins and Tylan Wilson could be one of the country’s best as soon as 2028.
