One of LSU Basketball’s few bright spots from last season is making his way across the sabine.
Sophomore Jalen Reece, who started 10 games last season as a true freshman, has committed to Texas A&M. Reece is the second guard to commit to the Aggies on Wednesday, following former G-Leaguer Bryson Warren.
Reece played in 32 games last year, averaging 5.8 points and 3.6 assists per game as the Tigers crumbled once conference play began. He scored in double digits in seven of LSU’s last eight games, including — and perhaps not so coincidentally — a career high of 17 points against A&M in the Aggies’ triple-overtime victory March 7.
A 4-star prospect out of high school, the Orlando, Fla. product was a strong distributor last year, averaging a 2.77:1 assist to turnover ratio. He shot nearly 36% from the field but less than 30% from 3-point distance, though he shot less than two per game on average.
The 6-foot, 185-pound point guard only had one game all season where he had more than three turnovers. He had a career high 10 assists in a double-overtime win at Ole Miss in February, a game in which he also scored 11 points for his first career double-double.
The Aggies have been in serious need of point guards coming into Wednesday, but the additions of Reece and Warren would appear to solve that problem. Warren’s versatility as a combo guard could allow Reece to start along with Warren and fellow new addition PJ Haggerty in a three-guard lineup.
