Aggies land 5-star offensive lineman

With all four Aggie starting offensive linemen available in the draft being selected, the weekend was already good for offensive line coach Adam Cushing. It got better Sunday, when Kingwood 5-star offensive lineman Kennedy Brown committed to Texas A&M.

Brown is ranked as the second-best tackle in the nation and the fifth player overall according to ESPN, while On3/Rivals has him listed as the 15th-best player and the third-ranked guard. 247 ranks Brown as a 4-star, 29th overall and the third-best tackle.

Brown joins the nation’s top-ranked class for 2027, which now has three 5-stars among its 13 total members.

BuckyBall adds another two pieces to the puzzle

Cushing and head Coach Mike Elko weren’t the only coaches happy this weekend. Basketball Coach Bucky McMillan had plenty to smile about as well.

The Aggies struck twice this weekend, adding former McNeese guard Tyshawn Archie Saturday and former Loyola Marymount forward Jalen Shelley Sunday.

Archie, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound guard averaged 14.3 points, 2.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game for the Cowboys last year after spending the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Tulsa. He adds additional firepower to a backcourt that now includes PJ Haggerty (K-State), Bryson Warren (G-League) and Jaden Reece (LSU).

Shelley, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound native of Little Elm, is returning to Texas after spending his freshman year at USC before moving to LMU. He started all 25 games he played in last year, averaging 13.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. An aggressive attacker of the basket, Shelley averaged 45.7% shooting from the field in 2025-26.

Baseball takes series at Florida

The No. 7 Texas A&M baseball team did something it has never done before this weekend: beat Florida in Gainesville during a conference series.

After being stifled offensively in a 9-2 loss Friday night, the Aggies rebounded with a vengeance, hammering the Gators in the next two games by a combined score of 13-5. Saturday saw the Aggies get another strong outing from starter Aiden Sims (8-0), who held Florida to two runs on four hits while striking out seven in five innings of work. Sims got a lot of offensive help as A&M’s lineup battered Gators pitching for four home runs, starting with catcher Bear Harrison’s solo shot in the top of the third to tie the game at one. Second baseman Chris Hacopian’s double drove in Gavin Grahovac later in the inning to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead, and then A&M started to tee off.

Freshman third baseman Nico Partida hit his 12th home run in the top of the fourth, followed by a moonshot hit by Grahovac that bounced off the top of the batter’s eye in center field 400 feet away in the top of the fifth. Grahovac had went four for four on the day with 2 RBI, continuing his month-long hot streak.

While Grahovac’s bomb was impressive, freshman right fielder Jorian Wilson at least gave him a run for his money with a 422-foot shot to right center that completely left Condron Family Ballpark. The two-run shot in the top of the eighth gave the Aggies a 9-3 lead, which closer Clayton Freshcorn finished off for his eighth save in an eventual 9-4 win.

The Aggies got what may have been their best pitching performance of the year Sunday, as starter Weston Moss and relievers Gavin Lyons and Freshcorn combined to hold Florida to a run on eight hits in a 5-1 win. Moss worked the first four innings, giving up the lone run, before Lyons (10-0) followed with three innings of shutout ball before Freshcorn worked two scoreless to pick up his second save in as many days.

In spite of the excellent work on the mound, Wilson was the big story on Saturday. The rookie crushed another tape measure shot in the top of the sixth to give A&M a 4-1 lead, then fired a one-hop strike to home plate from medium-deep right field to nail Florida’s Blake Cyr at the plate for an inning-ending double play in the bottom of the eighth.

The Aggies are now 33-8 on the season, 14-6 in the SEC and just a half-game behind Georgia for first in the conference standings.
